
Baptist on Mission is starting the first rebuild phase of Essential Rapid Repairs (ERR) in McDowell County. In this first phase they are trying to get people back into their home and make it safe, sanitary and functional (not finished) before the worst of winter. Currently, Gateway’s Disaster Relief Program is not accepting new applicants but has taken in an extensive amount of applications that they are working through to address the needs in the community. This may include, but is not limited to, roof/floor damage and eliminate imminent safety hazards. They are working on a plan to implement more permanent solutions once immediate needs have been resolved.

Centro Unido Latino Americano has developed the Jireh Project with the slogan “Together we face the storm.”
They are a non profit organization devoted to creating educational, economic, and recreational opportunities for the Latinx community and beyond across all ages. The core of their work is always the community they serve as they strive to establish equitable philanthropic resources for all people. Since the wake of the hurricane they have also provided weekly distribution of supplies. They also have financial assistance available for the community to help with damages and repairs. After several months of working alongside other ministries following Hurricane Helene, Landis OPC in Marion, North Carolina is eager to lead an effort in McDowell County, North Carolina. Along with the Presbytery of the Southeast and OPC Disaster Response, Landis OPC is now organizing teams to specifically bring aid to the most vulnerable in McDowell County, NC, where the church is located. They are building ten 16’x40’, 650 square foot houses, entitling them “Chalmers Homes”. (Thomas Chalmers was a Scottish minister and theologian who had a particular concern for ministering mercy to the poor in Glasgow.)
